Plans to provide additional information in weeks leading up to community meetings.
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (July 27, 2026) – As Rock City Enterprises continues to provide information regarding development of a gondola system, findings regarding the safety of ropeways provided by world market leader Doppelmayr Group are being publicly shared.
Rock City Enterprises recently provided the entire traffic study for the project, and a few days ago, provided the schedule of upcoming open-house style meetings to gather information and provide clarity on the project. The organization is now making the safety study and findings available.
According to Doppelmayr, ropeways represent the safest and most reliable mode of transportation worldwide. Four key factors are listed that contribute to the high safety standards including: compliance with international standards, comprehensive testing and certification, continuous monitoring and maintenance, and redundant system design. The company shares, “…each installation undergoes extensive testing, inspections, and certification procedures by independent authorities. This process assures that all safety requirements are fully met.”
Doppelmayr also notes that ropeways have a high level of operational reliability through robust engineering, high availability, resilience to external factors, and efficient operational management through modern control technologies and operator training. These efforts provide a smooth and efficient system with minimal disruptions.
Rock City Enterprises is making additional information available from the study, “Bus, Train, Ropeway: Safe, Safer, The Safest? A Safety Comparison between Urban Transportation Modes.”
As they plan for the future, Rock City President Doug Chapin noted, “This community has been good to us for the last 94 years. As we continue to plan for the future, we know the best way forward is working hand-in-hand with our neighbors. The conversations we’ve had to date have been extremely meaningful and we look forward to additional exchanges leading up to our community meetings.”
Officials noted that as they develop their safety plans, they will be working closely with Walker County and the City of Lookout Mountain to adhere to safety regulations leading to a safe operation.
He added that Rock City is continuing to keep its promises by offering data in the coming weeks regarding noise levels, environmental concerns, and sewer infrastructure. “We want to make sure we’re addressing concerns and questions from our neighbors. We’re enjoying the conversations and look forward to the upcoming community meetings.”
