JIM PFITZER MAKES EARTH DAYZ COME ALIVE

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA – “Chattanooga’s Storyteller,” Jim Pfitzer, is onsite during Rock City’s Earth Dayz going on from 11 am to 4 pm, April 16-19 and 23-26.  He tells the fascinating story of an eagle and builds a large bird’s nest after the program in Critter Classroom, correlating with the Rock City Raptors Birds of Prey show.

“Partnering with Rock City Gardens and Save Our American Raptors (S.O.A.R.) has been great for me, because so many of my stories involve the natural world,” said Jim Pfitzer.  “This partnership tells that story – beyond just my voice.”

Duncan Harris, a nine-year old who heard Mr. Pfitzer’s story said afterwards, “The part I liked the best was when the eagle was laying on the ground - I knew there was something wrong with that eagle.  I really liked the story and I liked the nest building the best!"

Jim Pfitzer got his start telling stories in the early nineties while splitting his time between guiding rafts down the Snake River in Wyoming and working with birds of prey in Arizona.  Jim’s personal stories range from too-close-for-comfort black bear encounters, to the indulgence of sweet tea in southern society and then at Rock City’s Earth Dayz, a story about a friendship between an eagle and a young boy.
The birds of prey shows are offered at 11am, 1pm and 3pm during Earth Dayz, and returning during the summer.  Enjoy this rare opportunity to witness these powerful and majestic birds up close.  An outdoor sculpture called “Iron Age” by Roger Halligan is also onsite during Earth Dayz.

Rocky and the Gnome are available for pictures, along with gemstone panning, Fairyland Forest Makeovers and the Rock Climbing Wall.  For the event schedule of activities during Earth Dayz, or to purchase an annual pass to come back all year (less than the cost of two admissions), visit www.seerockcity.com/earthdayz.

This event revolves around Rock City’s commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle,
our stewardship of nature and our commitment to education and the environment.  Orange Grove Recycling and Take Root Chattanooga are also involved with Rock City in this venue.
Just six miles from downtown Chattanooga, Tenn., Rock City is an enchanted, 4,100-foot walking trail showcasing lush gardens, caves and soaring rock formations.
