Get in touch with Rock City’s German Heritage during the 9th annual Rocktoberfest!
Rock City Square will be transformed for a celebration of harvests and fall foliage. This premiere Fall Celebration includes live German Music, Polka Lessons, German Food, Specialty Beer, Costume Characters and Fun for the whole family. Join the fun at Rock City as we celebrate our German heritage and honor our founder Frieda Utermoehlen Carter!

Event Activities

Stroll along the Buddenstrasse, sing Oompah Karaoke, German Food and Beer, specialty souvenirs, photo opportunities, Live Music, Polka Lessons, and more await you at Rocktoberfest. Event activities include:

  • Featured in 2013 (Updates for 2014 coming soon)
    • Celebrate Frieda's love of folklore and fairy tales with a visit to see Ik the Troll King. Veteran performer Bryan Thompson joins us this year to bring Ik to life on the Cliff Terrace porch
    • Visit Rocky the Elf...along the Enchanted Trail near Cliff Terrace porch. Meet Rocky the Elf and have your picture taken as Rocky helps us celebrate Rocktoberfest. Saturdays and Sundays, 11am - 5pm. 
    • Enjoy lunch at Cafe 7! The full service dining terraces at Lovers Leap are the perfect place to take in the 7 States view while feasting on delicious Southern Cuisine. Seating available Thursdays - Sundays, 11am - 4pm. Cafe 7 will feature a special German dish for this event. 
  • The Buddenstrasse (Avenue of the Booths) will be located in front of the Elder Flame sculpture and down Legacy Lane and will include Artisan Vendors and a booth by the MaryEllen Locher Foundation. 
  • Specialty Big River Beer on tap in the Pavilion and on the Rock Shop Patio. Bottled beer will be available at Cliff Terrace. Also available - enjoy a sweet vintage German Gewurztraminer grape from Georgia Winery, which offers a strong fragrant aroma and a smooth, spicy finish.  
  • German Food including grilled bratwurst, homemade sauerkraut, & roasted potatoes
  • Limited Edition Pink Rock City birdhouses, birdhouse ornaments, lapel pins and mugs will be available this year in support of Breast Cancer Awareness! 
  • Special Souvenirs including novelty hats: chicken hats for the chicken dance and green Biarritz German hats. Also souvenir beer mugs that include a free first beer and discounted re-fills.  Be sure to get your Limited Edition Rocktoberfest Beer Stein and Limited Edition "Lance the German Gnome" to celebrate Rocktoberfest!
  • Polka Dance Lessons
  • Live Bands with audience participation for the “Chicken Dance” and other favorites (see performance schedule below)
  • Costumed characters available for photos
  • German and Harvest Themed Themed photo opportunities
  • Kids Activities including: Interactive Kids Activities (balloons, music, mime, magic, etc) will occur at the Lovers Leap Terraces and throughout the park during the event, offerings may vary throughout event. Plus Fairyland Forest Makeovers*, Pumpking Painting*, Panning for Gems* and the Rock Climbing Wall*

What's Blooming at Rock City?

In October, look for Red Knock Out Roses, Pansies, Shasta Daisies, and Holly Osmanthus blooming in our gardens. Also, don't miss the breath-taking views from Lover's Leap during the height of Fall's color!
