"Restoration of the American Chestnut" The Chattanooga Chestnut Tree Project: We plan to restore American Chestnut to the southern Appalachian forest. The return of the American chestnut requires a multidisciplinary effort. We are actively engaged in all aspects of this major restoration attempt, including research on biological control of the chestnut blight disease and the study of restoration ecology. |

She planted them every fall wherever the Navy sent them whether or not she would be there to see them bloom the following spring. John grows some 900 varieties in old horse pastures and in specially designed raised garden beds. |
