Ruth Baumgardner

Sunday, May 24, 1:00pm

Ruth Baumgardner presents:
"Extending the season with perennial color"

Ruth Baumgardner and her husband, Erbin, are owners of Mouse Creek (Nursery) Perennial Farm located in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains at Riceville, TN. In business for more than 20 years, her nursery specializes in growing more than 600 varieties of hardy herbaceous perennials, and a large selection of herbs and unusual annuals.
A former school teacher whose love for perennials led to starting a nursery in 1983, Mrs. Baumgardner discovered that many gardeners were not familiar with the array of perennials that could be grown in the South. Thus, she embarked on a gardening mission of educating the public to the wonderful world of perennial gardening. She is the immediate Past President of the Perennial Plant Association, having served as Southeastern Director and Chairman of the Education Committee. The Perennial Plan Association, with more than 2,000 members in the United States, Canada, and Europe, is the organization that selects the Perennial Plant of the Year.

Mrs. Baumgardner lectures throughout the country on perennials and the use of perennials in the landscape. In 2004, the Tennessee Master Gardeners honored Mrs. Baumgardner for her 10 years of service, teaching perennial classes to aspiring gardeners in four counties.
