Celebrate Spring at This Naturally Fun Event!

Join us at Rock City Gardens during this naturally fun outdoor premier event...go on a RockQuest Adventure and climb to the top of the Rock Climbing Wall at Lovers Leap, learn how to use recycled materials for an innovative and fun make-and-take project, be mesmerized when Vines and Trees come to life with methodic movement, create a unique "Flower Flair" to help plant a wildflower field, see how Art and Nature enhance each other, learn about America's majestic birds of prey AND learn how to make your own rain barrel all while enjoying the great doors with your family during Earthdayz!

What to Do and See: 

  • NEW for 2019 - the Living Vine and Tree: Rock City Talent Dancers take on a new form as "Aralia the Living English Ivy". Watch as she glides to and from her destined location to camouflage in the Bog Garden; can you spot "Aralia"? Jerry Bowman returns to Rock City as the incredible Living Tree; bringing movement and motion to a Magnolia tree. Paired with the living vine to create an artistic and interactive show for guests. 
  • NEW for 2019 - Rocky's Riddles: Pick up your Kid's Adventure Passport and play "Rocky's Riddles." Journey through the gardens with this unique QR Code Riddle game. Themed to specific places along the path, guests will search for each QR Code Marker by solving each riddle. Five Riddles will guide you to the last location where a fun prize will be! 
  • Make-and-Take Recycle Projects - Learn all about how to reduce, reuse, and recycle with some educational , interactive activities including creating a "pot" from recycled newspapers. Located on Cliff Terrace Porch. 
  • Birds of Prey Shows - Your heart will soar as Wings to Soar shares their majestic rescue birds of prey during this interactive, uplifting, and educational encounter. Located in the Critter Classroom.
  • Educational Rain Barrel Demonstrations - Learn how to build your own rain barrel so you can start collecting rain water for your potted plants or garden! Located on Cliff Terrace Porch. 
  • Walking in Frieda's Footsteps Tour - Set out on a guided tour of Rock City Gardens and learn about the enchanting history of the gardens and our founder, Frieda Utermoehlen Carter. Discover some fascinating facts about recycling, native species, pollinator plants, and our beautiful Earth. Tour begins at Ticket Plaza. 
  • Make a Flower Flair - Become a part of the gardening experience at Rock City by making a "Flower Flair". Let your creativity take over as mix soil, clay, and seeds to create a Rock City Flower Flair that you can take home to plant OR you have the option to launch it off Fairy Glen Overlook. By launching your Flower Flair over Fairy Glen Overlook, you have the fun of helping plant a new wildflower field here at Rock City Gardens. Learn about the importance of native flowers, and what they can do for our environment. 
  • Meet Rocky the Elf on Prospector's Point Patio.
  • Kofi Mawuko - Percussionist brings his interactive percussion talents all the way from Ghana, but is a resident of Chattanooga and has been for many years. Kofi's percussion style is influenced with jazz, hip-hop, funk, blues, and many other genres of music. Find Kofi playing percussion throughout the gardens for an immersive musical experience. 

What to Bring Home:

  • Geode Dig - In search of your own Rock City natural treasure? Go on a dig for your own geode! Once you've picked yours, our partner will help you crack it open to reveal your sparkling treasure! Located near Prospector's Point. 
  • Take home our special See Rock City Birdhouse made from 100% recycled materials. Located in the Stone Gazebo near Lover's Leap. 

What to Eat:

  • Big Rock Grill will be featuring The Local Burger - 1/3 pound locally grown, grass-fed beef burger with all the trimmings as well as  a "Cup of Dirt and Worms" - Chocolate Dirt Cake with Gummi Worms
  • Cafe 7 will be featuring several exciting plant-based menu items including "Beyond Meat" burger - pea protein and beet based patty, mock "scallops" over veggie noodles and a special salad made from local and organic farm produce. Top it off with a "Love the Earth Lemonade" - Fresh fruit filled ice cubes topped with fresh lemonade. 
  • The Fudge Kitchen will feature "Garden Path" fudge - Chocolate fudge sprinkled with green (dyed) coconut representing the grass of the Earth.

In April, look for Redbud Trees, Kwansan Cherry Trees, and Korean Spice Viburnum blooming in our gardens. Don’t miss the breathtaking views from Lover’s Leap as spring blooms at beautiful Rock City Gardens.
